    Here in Ireland it's been such a terrible summer. Constant rain and very few warm days. The jet stream has been weird. Has it been nice in Canada? I feel like a hotter than usual Canadian summer could explain the northern blocking over here.

    Just visited this site for 4 days. It's a great place to go. The camp host is very friendly & helpful. Note check directions first as they can be confusing

      I have been growing palms for decades. As for Global warming I think that is complete nonsense. As a weather observer for nearly 4 decades recording daily data year round and logging it. I have not seen a single change in anything, So after nearly 4 decades I took all of those weather log books and tossed them in the dumpster. I still have two weather stations in use. There are so many palm trees along the BC coast since the 1940's. It is a good climate for certain species

      @@BananaJSSI ah interesting take thanks! I am loving it too!..The palm trees you planted there are absolutely beautiful and enrich the forrest. We have a shared passion for the beauty of these trees! Especially the Fortunei is so incredible to me how it is so hardy beyond belief. People in the NL are still surprised when I tell them I have palm trees growing and actively propagating in my garden😂

      @@BananaJSSI and yeah climate change is primarily BS. In the NL they have been complaining about extremely dry summers and that extreme droughts will be a structural issue. Well this year we had the wettest year ever in recorded history 😂 I think this was probably a major contributor to the succes of all seedlings germinating this year😂

      @@NikauPalmCal yeah the NL is colloquially called "kikkerlandje" in Dutch which basically means Small Frogland due to the amount of rain. This year has been exceptional however with the amount of rain hence the beautiful greenery this year!!

      @@BananaJSSI We got 19mm of rain from a thunderstorm, though now it's back to dry weather as far as I can see. Forecast is in the 80s and high 70s so the ground will be drying up again very quickly.

      Do it because they will easily grow in the Netherlands. I had Palm seeds sent to me from Zeeland many years ago

    I have a gigantic one in my garden too in the Netherlands. About 20 years old now next to a female. Every year sbe gives me seeds and small palms germinate around them.

      They do self seed around the palms, but in this forest I spread thousands of seeds every year

    I was reading about this somewhere else and that led to your 12yr old vid! I am told that given the chance a crow will usually win when fighting a seagull. A seagull might be heavier/stronger but has a curved peak and duck feet whilst the crow is more agile/faster,. has claws and a strong pointed peak.

    Do you have any yucca aloifolia in your yard? Really wish it was more available in PNW. Gloriosa is beautiful too. I've been seeing a lot more large growing variegated gloriosa in Seattle. Happy to see people planting them more.

      This far north they would get killed in a zone 8a winter. However a zone 8a in the south is different. I had these ones given to me several years ago from a fellow Palm Society member

    Some years ago I read a very interesting article on how conifer forest evolve. The interesting thing was how conifers push deciduous growths out thus starving out land grazing and fruit/nut tree dwellers. Explains why the early pioneers downed the conifer trees and torched the soil.

      LED lights give off no heat. Never protect these palms in our climate. My wife has LED lights on year round because it looks nice for our accommodation guests

      These are Himalayan Blackberries that taste much better than those native ones. Love the fact that these grow along the road sides and people can pick for free. They taste so good, native ones don't taste that good

    All looking good, I have one trachy that I got in early 2023 at a nursery in St. George utah for only like 35 bucks and it’s a really nice size palm probably around 6 years old or more.

      Excellent! The St.George, Utah Chamaerops I grew from seed have proven very cold tolerant and they are still small

    Would you mind looking at my recent tree fern video please? I'm after advice, because the fronds are coming out deformed. There's plenty of them and the first flush seemed fine but now they are nice and thick when emerging but then are stumpy deformed fronds. Have yours ever put out deformed fronds? Thank you

      Right on. Good for you, they really are cool plants. Expect about 1" inch of trunk growth per year if they are looked after properly
